Beschreibung

Hispanic ceramic from the 12th to the 18th century, by X. Dectot, Ed. RMN, 8 inches x 10-½ inches ( 21 cm x 27 cm ), softcover book with 160 full color pages

This book with 160 color pages recounts the history of the early Spanish ceramic and potteries.
The appearance of glazed earthenware in the Valencian workshops at the beginning of the 15th century brought about a profound upheaval in the landscape of western ceramics.
Two technical innovations are jointly at the origin of this new decoration: The use for the first coating, of a white and opaque glaze and especially, of application before the last firing of copper and silver oxides, treated so as to reflect the light and give a luster effect.
For the first time, ceramics can compete with ceremonial metal dishes and success is immediate.
The demand quickly exceeds the framework of Spain to reach all of Europe, and more particularly Tuscany.
This catalog raisonné presents the entire magnificent collection of the National Museum of the Middle Ages, Thermes and Hôtel de Cluny, that is to say 115 works, some of which are of exceptional quality and age.

Contents:

  • Analysis and comparisons
  • Glazed Ceramics of al-Andalus
  • Christian Terracotta

  • Workshops in Seville of porcelain with a metallic sheen
  • Aragon and Catalonia
