Beschreibung

A moon watch story - Omega speedmaster, Ed. Watchprint, 9 inches x 9 inches ( 22.5 cm x 22.5 cm ), hardcover book with 224 pages

A small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind... and an extraordinary destiny for a watch that will accompany Man's first steps on the Moon, thus becoming the greatest icon in the history of watchmaking: the Omega Speedmaster «Moonwatch».
Introduced to the public by Omega in 1957, the Speedmaster was designed for rather sporting use, such as motor racing. However, his fate took a different turn in the early 1960s. Astronauts, some of whom wore a Speedmaster privately, wanted to be officially equipped with a reliable, precise and resistant watch. This is the reason why NASA undertook in 1964 a series of rigorous tests and in extreme conditions, in order to select the best chronograph to accompany them on their space missions. The Omega Speedmaster won these tests and was officially certified (High Qualified for All Manned Space Missions) par la NASA on March 1, 1965 for the Gemini project. It was in July 1969 that she truly made history, serving the astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission (Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins). for the first steps of Man on the Moon.
This hardcover book with 224 full color pages traces this extraordinary epic and the evolution of a unique and timeless watch which, from its beginnings in 1957 to current models, has never ceased to fascinate.
