This softcover book with 374 full color pages superbly illustrated by 500 photographs is very richly documented. His name? Christopher Potter (1751 - 1817). Born in England, he left his mark on the golden era of
French porcelain from 1789 to 1804 by his bold and original creations. Always at the "avant-garde" for his time, he is at the origin of French printed transfer ware, subtle color backgrounds and varieties of porcelain, of original and innovative forms. He created different manufactories in Paris (1789), Chantilly (1792), Montereau (1796), Forges les Eaux (1797), Gournay (1799) and ignored others do feed his network of international trade.
In addition to his creative talents, this secret and extraordinary character possesses special skills as a diplomat, giving him a special place at the centre of Franco-British relations during the Revolutionary period. We will also be travelling with his network of contacts in a fascinating story in the maze of history, through meetings with Benjamin Franklin, William Pitt, the Prince of Wales, Barras, the Tallien couple and Bonaparte. Royalist at heart, nothing can distract him from his path. Indeed, among a large range of products, the most fascinating ceramic produced by Potter are without any doubt those championing the cause of the royal family, moving testimony to the unwavering commitment to Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette and their children. Even after the tragic end in 1793, and in 1795 for the Dauphin, Potter never ceased to uphold the memory of the monarchy until the end of his live.

L'histoire de la céramique serait incomplète, si l'on oubliait ce créateur de génie aux talents multiples. Son nom ? Christophe Potter (1751 - 1817). Anglais d'origine, il a marqué la grande époque de la porcelaine française de la fin du XVIIIe siècle et du début XIXe par ses créations originales et audacieuses.
Toujours avant-gardiste pour son époque, il est à l'initiative du décor imprimé sur faïence, des fonds de couleurs subtils et variés sur porcelaine, de formes originales et novatrices, de peintures de grandes qualités ou de décors mis en oeuvres dans ses manufactures de Paris (1789), Chantilly (1792), Montereau (1796), Forges les Eaux (1797), Gournay (1799) et d'autres encore ignorées.
Outre ses talents créatifs, ce personnage secret et hors norme possède des aptitudes particulières de diplomate lui conférant une place particulière au coeur des échanges franco-britanniques durant la période Révolutionnaire. Son réseau de relations nous fera ainsi voyager, lors d'un récit passionnant dans les dédales de l'histoire, à travers des rencontres avec Benjamin Franklin, Pitt, le prince de Galles, Barras ou encore Bonaparte. Royaliste de coeur, rien ne saurait le détourner de son chemin. En effet, Potter se servira sans relâche de ses créations céramiques pour défendre la cause de la famille royale et témoigner ainsi de son attachement indéfectible envers Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette et leurs enfants.
